| Abstract: | One of the most important written monuments of old Romanian is the Bucharest Bible of 1688. It was the first complete translation of the Bible into Romanian (Old Testament; New Testament and Apocrypha), ordered and patronized by Șerban Cantacuzino. In the present study, we refer only to a part of this momentous work – the Book of Psalms, which, in the 1688 version, contains 150 psalms, attributed to King David. In the analysis of the language used in the psalms, we have focused mainly on the verb complexity, namely, on the usage of the simple past, which displays a series of various grammatical and semantic values conferring special charm to the entire text. |
