Abstract:The paper analyze the Mihail Sadoveanu’s novel Nopţi de sânziene (Yellow Bedstraw Nights) by the sight of a modern new form of acculturation, by the bookish reflection of the cultural contamination process, first by the industrial technology. The French Engineer Bernard comes in contact with the inhabitants of the Moldavian Latin Orient, relation intermediated by the prince Mavrocosti, interested initially in the exploitation of the forest Borza, his property. Two types of thinking: one, pragmatic (the French engineer), another, with deep mythical roots (of the autochthon population) enter in a tacit conflict because the elements of the modern society from the beginning of the XXth century are seen as a menace for the structure of an idyllic space, where the perception concerning the Foreigner means aggression, himself considering that he is in an area at the barbarian frontier. The M. Sadoveanu’s novel it’s the space of the confrontation and of the synthesis between me and the Others, between rational and irrational during the industrial expansion between the two World Wars.
Key words:worlds in contact, rational/ irrational, mythical world/ industrial world, tacit resistance
