Abstract:In this paper we aim at presenting the way in which G. Ivănescu conceived of the old Romanian standard language. When studying it, the Romanian scholar is especially interested in the origin of our written language, whose coming into being is related to the rise of the Romanian aristocracy. Unlike other researchers, who underlined the idea of the Romanian written language originating in Muntenia, considering Coresi as its founder, G. Ivănescu establishes that the beginning of the Romanian writing is connected to the the 15th-century Maramureş and sustains that it is the rhotacistic texts that founded the tradition of Romanian writing.
Other aspects, considered essential by G. Ivănescu, have to do with the so-called written dialects (or literary dialects), which are characteristic of the Romanian standard language in the first part of its existence, as well as with the issue of enriching our written language.
