Abstract:This article aims at examining two translations of Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, the translation into Romanian made by Frida Papadache, published in 1976, and the translation into French made by Jacques Papy, published in 1994, in order to identify the translation approaches used for a text written for children. Lewis Carroll’s text undergoes a process of domestication or familiarization in Frida Papadache’s translation, characterised by hypocoristic expressions and explanatory, didactic footnotes, while it remains neutral, “un-marked” according to the reader, who is not necessarily a child, in Jacques Papy’s translation.
