Abstract:The paper analyses a group of lexemes from the semantic field of kinship (the terms that express consanguinity in collateral direction) in the Istro-Romanian dialect.
The aspects analysed are etymology, semantic specialization, the terms’ degree of stability and their occurrence in the Istro-Romanian linguistic territory. We also examined the relationship between the borrowings and the inherited terms and we compared the Istro-Romanian terms with those that can be found in other Romanian dialects.
The paper emphasizes the fact that the Croatian influence is strong, even in the basic vocabulary of the Istro-Romanian dialect, the most stable part of any idiom.
