This article goes through the problems Catalan has encountered after being the language of a nation, as well as through the extent of its dominion towards the South and the islands. Even though it is no longer an official language, Fabra makes a codification of Catalan, using a participative model, regarding vulgarization and interferences it has had, having a review on the remarkable homogeneity afferent to the Catalan varieties. Also, notes are made on the integration of Catalan dialects in the standard language.
