Abstract:[Anthroponymic microsystems. Surnames derived from plant names]
There were identified 120 surnames derived from plant names. Some names of flowers were turned into anthroponyms (Brînduşa, Bujor, Trandafir etc.), others into terms of endearment used by family members (Brebenel, Busuioc, Toporaş etc.), and they were initially used as bynames and later got consecrated as official surnames.
Most surnames under discussion derive from nicknames that usually refer to a person’s character. The 121 surnames presented according to their frequency at the level of counties and regions are borne by 146,427 people.
Key words:
  • nume de familie, nume personale, porecla, nume de plante
  • surname, anthroponym, nickname, plant name
