Abstract:Our paper aims to achieve a study on Romanian food terminology, focusing on terms “a bea” and “a mânca” as it is presented in Dicţionariul limbei romane (1871-1874), written by A. T. Laurian and I. C. Massim. To analyse this terminology, we use the approach of metalexicography. This approach subsumes the linguistic component to the process of writing the lexicographical work: production, reception and its impact on the social level. All theses dimensions allow us to understand the circumstances that determine and explain the development of the Romanian lexicography in the nineteenth century and their role in the cultural context.
