L’écriture de Biserica neagră d’Anatol E. Baconsky doit surtout sa densité à un processus de transmutation tout à fait original où se sont aussi sédimentés les échos d’une tradition littéraire dont l’auteur était un profond connaisseur. Si les critiques ont noté l’influence du Symbolisme roumain, aucun n’a encore mentionné celle du Symbolisme belge et français. À partir de nombreux exemples, l’analyse comparative décèle un climat crépusculaire similaire (l’automne, le crépuscule, les cloches, la brume, la solitude...) dans Biserica neagră et Bruges-la-Morte de Rodenbach. Nous avons relevé un dernier parallélisme important entre Biserica neagră et un autre roman de Rodenbach, Le Carillonneur, caractérisé en particulier par plusieurs coïncidences troublantes : le métier de sonneur, la présence d’une « Ligue » et la même atmosphère noire et lugubre. Nous avons révélé aussi des convergences entre Biserica neagră et La terreur future, nouvelle appartenant à La Légende des Gueux (1891) de Marcel Schwob. Le thème de l’oppression de l’Histoire, s’abattant sur une Ville et prenant le visage d’une secte secrète et meurtière, est en effet commun aux deux oeuvres.
The writing in Biserica neagră by Anatol E. Baconsky owes its density above all to a completely original process of transmutation within which are also layered the echoes of a literary tradition of which the author possessed a profound knowledge. Whereas critics have noted the influence of Romanian Symbolism, none has of yet made mention of French and Belgian Symbolism. Working from numerous examples, comparative analysis detects a crepuscular similar atmosphere (autumn, twilight, church bells, mist, solitude…) in Biserica neagră by Anatol E. Baconsky and Bruges-la-Morte by Rodenbach. We have identified a final important parallelism between Biserica neagră and another novel by Rodenbach, Le Carillonneur, which is characterized by numerous troublesome coincidences: the profession of the bell–ringer, the presence of a « League », and the same dark and lugubrious atmosphere. We have demonstrated points of convergence between Biserica neagră and the short story, La terreur future, included in Marcel Schwob’s La Légende des Gueux (1891). The theme of the oppression of History that plagues a City in the guise of a secret and murderous sect, is in fact found in both of the works.
