Est-il légitime de faire figurer Charles De Gaulle parmi les « pères fondateurs » de la Francophonie ? La réponse à cette question ne va pas de soi. En effet, si le Général a été une figure majeure de la vie politique entre 1940 et 1969 et s’il a contribué, par ses actions mais aussi plus généralement par sa personnalité et son charisme, à façonner le monde francophone que nous connaissons aujourd’hui, son attitude face à la Francophonie, notamment sous son aspect institutionnel, a été pour le moins réservée.
Is it legitimate to put De Gaulle among the Founding Fathers of Francophony? The answer to this question does not go by its own. In fact, if the General was a major figure of the political life between 1940 and 1969 and he contributed, by its endeavour and by its character and its charisma to the changing of the francophone world as we know it today, his attitude with respect to Francophony, especially with respect to the institutional aspect of it, has been at least reserved.
