The article focuses on the Romance continuity of a Greek borrowing into Latin, namely the Latin word AER. We have tracked down, in particular, its situation in Spanish and Romanian, where the relation between inheritance / borrowing is, in this case, hard to draw. We have tried to point out that the Romanian word aer, after having been apparently banned from the common language, has been reintroduced as part of the ‘re-latinization’ process.
