Abstract:In this paper we propose to introduce the new Dictionnaire Étymologique Roman (DÉRom) launched in January 2008 under the direction of Éva Buchi and Wolfgang Schweickard and written by an European team of linguists.
The DÉRom is both the successor of the REW and a modern dictionary by its fully computerised drafting and its methodology. This new dictionary aims to reconstruct the protoromance lexicon, that is to say the lexicon of the common ancestor of the Romance languages. Our goal is to discuss the design and the methodology of the DERom which is quite innovative in the field of the Romance languages.
