Avatarii evolutive ale conceptului ‘a educa’ în textele vechi românești

Abstract:This study is concerned with the expansive evolution of the concept ‘to educate’ (‘a educa’) as it is documented in various Old Romanian texts, most of them translations, from the 16th and 17th centuries. The chosen methodology was the analysis of numerous partial and contextual synonyms that expressed the educative process, viewed from different perspectives and therefore charged with their corresponding nuances. Apart from the usual conclusions of such a diachronic analysis, this study emphasises how important it is for semasiological analyses of translations to first of all consider the translation character of these texts. Sometimes, terms from the two languages that came in contact were equivalent and corresponded well to each other. Most often, though, the term in the source-language imposed its values and nuances on the chosen term in the target-language. This consequence of cultured contact, mediated by texts, had important effects on the (re)structuration, on a lexical-semantic and conceptual level, of the lexis of the Romanian language.
