Abstract:As a man of letters, Heinrich von Kleist (1777 – 1811) having stayed out of the literary movements during his lifetime has also written in the fields of aesthetics, philosophy and politics in addition to the drama, story and poetry. Kleist belonging to a noble family has joined into the army following his family’s tradition and been appointed as officer in 1797. However, he has left the army in 1799 with the idea of studying sciences and started studying Maths, Physics, History of Culture and Latin at Viadrina University in Frankfurt an der Oder. Kleist has committed to paper „Die Hermannsschlacht” (Hermann’s War) being the subject of this study with the aim of combining the German feudal lords trying with their fights for the throne against Napoleon. In this study, It has been got by on the thesis ‘Maybe Kleist has wanted to do whatever he could not do as an officer in the army with his heroe in that work’.
