Abstract:The Pragmatics deals with the problems of argumentation and persuasion of the discourse in different types of communication. One of them is the journalist discourse which offers a wide range of rhetorical devices used as strategies to persuade the reader. The text above presents some theoretical aspects about what means argumentation and persuasion, taking into account different opinions of the linguists, and also follows the theory in offering significant examples from Mihai Eminescu’s journalist work. The examples are based on the main argumentative devices like: description, narration, rhetorical question, polemic negation, repetition, metaphor etc. and the persuasive devices: irony, sarcasm, emphasis, quotation, order of words, imperative and so on. The conclusion is that Eminescu’s journalist work is very complex, that all the devices used make the communication persuasive, and also that his style is not to be confused even we talk about the beletristic work or the journalistic one.
