Abstract:In this paper, we aim to analyze the objective motivations and the subjective perceptions which explain the use of Anglicisms within two target groups of trilingual students, focusing on the similarities and differences existing between them. This study is based on the analysis of a questionnaire which contains 50 Anglicisms that are frequent both in Romanian and in French. The students had to state whether they perceived any (semantic or other) difference between the foreign and the mother-tongue terms, whether they preferred Anglicisms to their mother-tongue equivalents, and which of the Anglicisms in the questionnaire had for them a positive or a negative value. The analysis of their answers shows a large variety of reasons, some of which are linguistic while others are extralinguistic.
