| Abstract: | Romanian dictionaries retains, as single hypothesis for the origin of the word oraş its derivation from the Hungarian word város. Currently, this hypothesis is now increasingly challenged based on phonetic, but especially on semantic and logical-historical arguments. A careful analysis of the corpus of records written in the region during the first millenium lead to a different explanation. |
